Children’s health and wellbeing are our top priorities. At Children’s Mercy, we are committed to providing care in a safe, respectful and supportive environment for every patient, family member, visitor and team member.

Our Respect for ALL expectations help create a space where children can receive care safely and families feel supported, even during stressful moments. These guidelines are in place to protect everyone and ensure care can continue without disruption.

Respect for ALL is Children’s Mercy’s commitment to creating a safe, respectful and supportive environment for every patient, family member, visitor and team member. It outlines shared expectations for behavior so care can be delivered in a healing and secure setting.

Health care environments can be stressful. When health care professionals don’t feel safe, that can in turn affect the safety of patients. Clear expectations help ensure safety, dignity and respect for everyone while supporting our ability to provide high‑quality care to children and families.

Respect for ALL expectations apply to everyone in our spaces, including patients, families, visitors, caregivers and team members.

We ask everyone to:

  • Communicate respectfully
  • Treat others with dignity, care and respect
  • Honor personal boundaries
  • Protect privacy by refraining from photos, recordings or livestreaming when others are present
  • Help maintain a calm, safe environment
  • Work together to support smooth, safe care experiences

To protect safety and wellbeing, the following behaviors are not permitted:

  • Yelling, threats or hateful language directed at others or used in public spaces.
  • Discrimination or harassment of any kind.
  • Violence or unwelcome physical contact.
  • Destruction or theft of property.
  • Photos, recordings or livestreaming when others are present.
  • Behavior that disrupts care, teamwork or the healing environment.

If unsafe or disruptive behavior occurs, individuals may be asked to leave the facility. If you behave in any of the ways listed above, public safety/law enforcement may be called.

No. Children’s Mercy remains committed to providing medically necessary care.

No patient with an emergency medical condition will be turned away without being screened and stabilized; however, if you behave in any of the ways listed above, public safety/law enforcement may be called.

Yes. Our approach is grounded in compassion, dignity and trauma‑informed care. We recognize that families may be under stress and aim to respond with empathy while maintaining safety for all.
