Virtual training opportunities

Children’s Mercy is currently offering virtual educational opportunities for families, health care professionals and community professionals in place of our in-person educational trainings. All virtual sessions are free and you must register to attend.

Autism Family (VIRTUAL) Training Series Presents:

Depression and Anxiety in Youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder


This training will explore recognizing and addressing mental health differences (e.g. depression, anxiety) in youth with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Unique manifestations, challenges, and an overview of evidence-based psychosocial and medical treatments will be discussed.  Attendees will learn about prevention, safety planning, and how family collaboration plays a crucial role in successful outcomes.

Next Steps after an Autism Diagnosis


This training is intended for any family/caregiver that has recently received an autism diagnosis – or has a diagnosis and has not yet had an opportunity to attend.  Discussed will be the criteria for being diagnosed; evidence-based therapies that can help some of the challenges; how to connect with services –to name a few.

Toileting Struggles and Solutions


Toilet Training is a very important developmental milestone, and it often can be harder for children with autism. This training will:

  • Review the developmental signs for toilet training readiness
  • Identify challenges for children with ASD
  • Teach new strategies for children that have been unsuccessful with traditional training methods
