Volunteer opportunities

Year-round: College students who are over the age of 18 and have graduated high school can apply for a long-term/year-round commitment by applying as an adult volunteer. Visit the Adult Volunteer page to learn more about the requirements and how to apply.

Summer: College students who are over the age of 18 and have graduated high school can apply for our summer volunteer program. If you are not 18 or haven’t graduated high school, please visit the High School Student Volunteer page to learn more about the high school summer program.

Summer 2024 information and details: 

  • Summer Volunteer Program Session Dates: June 3 - Aug. 9.

  • Location: Children’s Mercy Adele Hall: 2401 Gillham Road, Kansas City, Mo.

  • Time commitment/hours of service: Volunteers will serve one full 8-hour day per week, Monday-Friday only. Hours assigned will be either 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. or 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.

  • Requirements for the College Student 2024 Summer Volunteer Program:

    • Candidates must be over 18 and have graduated from high school.

    • Candidates must be able to commit for the full 10 weeks or make up any missed hours.

    • Candidates must be able attend the in-person orientation Tuesday, May 21, 8:30a.m. - 3:30p.m.

    • Candidates must submit the full online application and required health documents by April 15, 2024, 11:59 p.m. in order to be considered.

    • Candidates will be required to pass a background check prior to serving in the hospital.

  • Application dates: Applications are open April 1 through April 15, 11:59 p.m.

  • Application process: This is a two-part application process. After you have completed and submitted the volunteer application and health documents, you will be sent an email to complete the second part of the application process.

  • Placement information: This is a highly competitive program and only 10 candidates will be selected. Our team will review complete applications from April 15-30. All acceptance/decline decisions and placements will be confirmed by April 30. All applicants will receive an email May 1 with details.

Guest services and hospitality roles

Help make every visitor feel welcome and ensure they have the most comfortable visit possible from the moment they walk in the door and throughout their stay.

Outpatient roles

Help patients pass the time in waiting rooms with fun activities, as well as support important duties to help our clinics run smoothly. 

Inpatient roles

Provide much needed support to the parents and patients spending time at Children’s Mercy through daytime and evening activities that help promote a positive experience during a difficult time.
