Why Children's Mercy

  • A multidisciplinary team provides a wide range of evaluation and treatment programs for infants, children and young adults.

  • Our staff members specialize in diabetes care; most are certified diabetes educators. The Children’s Mercy diabetes education program was the first pediatric program to receive recognition by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) for meeting national patient education standards, and our program has received continuous recognition from the ADA since 1989.

  • Outcome measures and extensive education are integral to our diabetes education program. Our staff provides 8 to 10 hours of initial education per patient and extensive family support. Due to our focus on education and despite an increase in the number of patients, nearly 100 percent of our patients are not re-admitted for diabetic conditions.

Diabetes In Children: Pediatric Endocrinology

Our pediatric endocrinologists are Kansas City's leading pediatric diabetes specialists in treating Type 1 diabetes (juvenile diabetes) and Type 2 diabetes in children.
